Tool Chain Management applications

An application in Tool Chain Management refers to a service, in your IT estate, that is supported by a specific collection of tools for each phase of the DevOps lifecycle. Each application in the table can be expanded to expose the eight phases of the DevOps lifecycle displaying the tools your DevOps team uses to support the service in each of those phases.
Example: You have access to
Universal Workflow
, a microservice provisioned by your DevOps team. The team uses the following tools to support the service at each phase:
  • Plan:
    Azure Boards
  • Develop:
    GitHub
  • Build:
    GitHub Actions and Jfrog Aritifactory
  • Secure:
    SonarQube and CodeQL
  • Test:
    Qmetry
  • Deploy:
    ArgoCD
  • Monitor:
    Grafana
  • Operate:
    Datadog and Terraform
Using Tool Chain Management, you have a centralized view of the entire suite of tools required to support the microservice. This capability of a single pane of glass provides coherent observability, eliminating the requirement of multiple consoles.

Tool Chain Management application features and functions

To the left of each application name in the application table, is an expand/collapse chevron that you can use to display the application composition. Expanding the application, displays the eight DevOps phases in one column (
DevOps Phase
) and the tools associated with each phase in a second column (
Tools
). If the application has been configured without a tool for any phase, the
Tools
column is blank for that phase.
The tools listed in the
Tools
column are represented as icons and contain a hot link to the tool. If Single Sign-on is enabled for the tool, clicking the link navigates you to your account in the tool, and you can view data for that tool. If Single Sign-on is not enabled the service navigates you to the external tool home page.
You also have the option of editing each phase to add and delete tools. To that end, you can display an overflow menu by clicking the vertical ellipsis at the far right of the Tools column within an application. The menu contains an
Edit
option. Click
Edit
to edit the tools listed in the tools column for that phase, for example
Plan
).
