Explore Discovery Management which enables you to track all your assets across your entire business with ease.
Explore Discovery Management which enables you to track all your assets across your entire business with ease.
Discovery Management provides a comprehensive view of the latest discovery status information for each cloud provider within your account. You can access status details, including the date, duration, and total assets discovered for each cloud provider across your accounts.
Pre-requisites
  • To ensure proper functionality, connections and user configurations are required. Make sure to register at least one connection. The data displayed in Discovery Management depends on the account credentials added on the Connection Management page. If these credentials have restricted permissions, Discovery Management may not be able to retrieve and display all data.
  • Discovery Management service would use the existing bridge roles to manage the discovery capabilities; these roles are:
    • Administrator
    • Editor
    • Operator
    • Viewer

Navigate to Discovery Management page with confidence by following straightforward steps, helping you feel assured in managing discovery data efficiently. Use the following procedure to access the Discovery Management page:
  1. From the Console menu, select Kyndryl Services.
  2. Under Discovery & Inventory, select Discovery Management

Discovery Management page composition

Discovery Management page displays the following components:
  • Asset Discovery
    • The Assets Discovery page displays two figures or charts with the following information:
    • Discovery errors:
      The number of errors while fetching assets broken down by provider. This dashboard displays a stacked bar chart that lets you know the specific providers that received errors.
    • Resources checked during discovery
      : The number of resources events that were checked to be discovered broken down by provider. This dashboard displays a stacked bar chart that lets you know the total number of providers being fetched.
  • The Asset Discovery page also displays a more in-depth list table with the following information:
    • Provider
      : The resources being tracked in the discovery. The Discovery Management dashboard can display the most current data of the following providers:
      • AWS
      • IBM Cloud
      • Microsoft Azure (CSP, EA, Application Insights, MPA, Subscription)
      • OCI
      • Google Cloud
      • Alibaba Cloud
      • VMware
      • vSphere
      • Demo Cloud
      • BYOD
      • Private Container Cluste
      • Private Container Cluste
  • Last Run
    : The date and time when the last fetching process was run, as well as how long the process took.
  • Next Run
    : The date and time when the next discovery will be run.
  • Status
    : The status for the last discovery process.
  • Error Found
    : The number of errors found during last discovery run.
  • Resource Checked
    : Number of resources checked during last discovery run.
  • At the same time, you can click the arrow down icon to see more details as follows:
    • Credential
      : A connection name that allows you to access the module.
    • Account
      : The subpart contained within the resource being tracked.
    • Last Run
      : The date and time when the last fetching process for this credential was run, as well as how long the process took and when the next discovery will be run.
    • Status
      : The status for the last discovery process.
    • Discovery Summary:
      The number of errors found, and the number of resources checked.
  • To go further down asset details, click the credential of your choice to view more in-depth details for that credential. The Details page displays the following information:
    • Summary
      : The Summary section provides basic details of the selected resource and associated credentials.
    • Last Run
      : The date and time when the last fetching process for this credential was run.
    • Duration
      : The amount of time that the discovery process took to complete.
    • Status
      : The status for the last discovery process.
    • Provider
      : The resource associated with the credential.
    • Asset Account
      : The asset account associated with the credential. Click this link to go to the Asset Account details page associated with the account.
    • Resources
      : The total number of resources associated with the credential, including how many are new and how many are modified.
  • The
    Errors
    section provides the following information about each error encountered. You can click
    Download
    in the upper right side of the section to download this information in JSON format.
    • Type
      : The type of error.
    • Time
      : The date and time when the error occurred.
    • Description
      : Further information to help you diagnose the cause of the error.
  • The Previous Runs section provides a history of the previous discovery processes for the corresponding credential associated with the Asset Account, including the following information. You can click
    Download
    in the upper right side of the section to download this information in JSON format.
    • Asset Account
      : The asset account associated with the credential.
    • Run Time:
      The date and time when the discovery process occurred.
    • Duration:
      The amount of time that the discovery process took to complete.
    • Status:
      The status for the discovery process.
    • Discovery Summary:
      The number of resource events checked.
  • The following are the different status explanations for the discovery process:
    • In progress
      : The discovery process is currently running.
    • Failed
      : The discovery process failed. The number of resource events that were successfully checked is listed.
    • Completed with errors
      : The discovery process was partially successful. The number of resource events that were successfully ingested is listed.
    • Complete
      : The discovery process completed without errors.
  • Each discovery must be considered an entity. It includes a master and detailed collection.
    • Master Collection

  • Detail Collection
    • discovery_run_id: Refers to the masterdiscovery_run_id lidiscovery_run_id
    • credential_id: The Kyndryl internal credential_id UUID
    • credentail_name: Kyndryl credential name
    • account_id: Kyndryl internal account_id GUID
    • account_name: Kyndryl account name
    • service_category: Such as compute
    • service_type: Such as vms
    • start_at: Timestamp of the start time
    • extract_count: Number of resources extracted
    • error_count: Number of errors encountered
    • status: ALL_SUCCESS or ALL_FAILURE or PARTIAL
