Insights on Unsupported & Nearing-End-of-Support Kubernetes or OpenShift Clusters

This page introduces insights that let you identify the clusters running on Kubernetes or OpenShift versions that have passed or nearing the end of support, ensuring compliance and alleviating security risks.

Introduction

Kubernetes or OpenShift introduces three new versions each year, offering You access to the latest features, security improvements, and bug resolutions. You can monitor your clusters and associated Kubernetes or OpenShift versions, allowing them to quickly detect outdated clusters and take appropriate actions guided by recommendations.
The actionable insights widget section is located within CCM
Dashboard view
and it features interactive tiles showing the count of clusters nearing the End of Active Support. These clusters have passed the End of Active Support yet still receive Maintenance Support and clusters that have gone beyond both Ends of Active Support and Maintenance Support.
In the cluster list table, icons are displayed to the left of the Kubernetes or OpenShift version number in the column. Clicking these icons activates a tooltip with information about the status of the version and a link to access recommendations within the slider panel.
The recommendations slider panel appears when you click the icon next to the Kubernetes or OpenShift/OpenShift version number in the cluster list table. This panel contains the following information:
  • Cluster Name
    : Displayed as the title.
  • Recommendation
: Based on the current Kubernetes or OpenShift version's support status. The panel provides one of three recommendations, depending on the cluster's support status:
    • Clusters nearing the end of Active Support: Advises updating to the latest version as the current version's Active and Maintenance Support will soon end.
    • Clusters with only Maintenance Support: Suggests updating to the latest version since Active Support has already ended, and Maintenance Support is nearing completion.
    • Clusters with no support: Urges an immediate update, as both Active and Maintenance Support have ended.
  • Current Version
: Displays the Kubernetes or OpenShift version running on the cluster.
  • Latest Version
: Shows the newest version available for installation.
  • Active Support End
: Indicates the ending date of active support for the current version.
  • Maintenance Support End
: Shows the ending date of maintenance support for the current version.
  • Additional Info
: Provides a link to the changelog for insights on updates and resolved issues.
  • Recommended Date
