filter refine the list of tag definitions based on defined criteria create definition create a new tag definition import definition import one or more tag definitions from a supported file tag definitions table provides a centralized workspace for managing tag definitions and supporting tagging governance across the table displays all available tag definitions, including tag key the unique name of the tag definition tag category the category assigned to the tag definition value type indicates the type of values allowed for the tag status shows whether the tag definition is active or inactive tag definitions categories select a category to classify the tag definition according to its functional or operational domain categories help organize tag definitions and promote consistent definitions to edit tag definitions follow these steps from the tag definitions table, l ocate the tag definition that you want to manage click the ellipsis (⋮) in the actions column the following actions are available for the selected tag definition audit information here, you can find the owner information, creation date, last user who modified the item, and the date of the latest update history the history record is tracked only for definitions in the active state the changes tracked are only at the metadata level edit a details page opens, allowing administrators to modify it only the key name will be read only use as template administrators can clone the existing definition, except for keys categories, constraints, and scope are pre populated when this option is selected an edit page opens where you can make the corresponding updates delete administrators can delete the current definition creating tag definitions you can create definitions with all basic details (tag key, description, tag categories), constraints and scope (optional) additionally, you can customize tag categories if needed follow these steps to create tag definitions from the main menu , go to administration → tag management → bridge tag management the tag definitions page displays, click create tag definition to begin creating a new tag definition complete the required information, including the tag key, category, description and value type click the save button to go back to the previous steps and edit the tag without losing the tag creation progress basic details continue to edit the tag completing the basic details of the tag definition state define the status of the new item if you select active status, the definition will be available for all users otherwise, if a new tag key is saved in a draft state, those tag keys will not be available by default, the tag definition for a new tag key is set in draft state key this is a required field you can select a key from the drop down menu (case sensitive) or create a new one by clicking the create key + link to avoid duplicate items, the key for tag definitions must be unique; otherwise, an error message is displayed indicating the duplicate issue if a tag definition attempts to be created for a tag key that already exists without a definition, the system will display an error message the tag management allows tag keys with a minimum of 1 character and a maximum of 256 characters, including digits from 0 to 9 and special characters (!@$% (); / \\) description this is a required field add a description for the definitions that do not exceed 100 characters tag categories tag categories help organize and manage tags you can select categories from the drop down menu (operations, location, security, finance, cost center, business unit, automation and technical) or customize a category that suits your needs please note that the system does not permit duplicate tag categories in the same account after all details are added, click the next button define constraints define a value type for the tag definition by default, this is set as a string value value type this field is required only one value type can be selected per tag definition regex pattern add a regular expression (set of strings) enumerated list define a list of allowed values here string add a sequence of characters click add constraint + link based on the value type previously selected enumerated list enter the values of the list separated by a comma regex enter the string set string define the number of characters allowed min chars count by default, it sets a minimum of 3 characters max chars count by default, it sets a maximum of 100 characters special character allowed? set a list of allowed characters after all details are added, click the next button define scope (optional) scope determines the boundaries within which tags are allowed to be performed the attributes that would be used to define the scope are provider and resource type this allows you to specify the context in which the tag is applicable, making your tag management more precise and efficient by default, all option is selected, indicating provider and resource types are applicable across all providers follow these steps to define the scope define the provider scope you can select one or more supported providers (aws, azure, gcp, ibm, local, among others) from the drop down list define the resource type based on the selected provider, the resource type field shows the applicable tag definition you can choose one or more resource types once the scope is delimited, click the next button review this is the most important step of the process confirm all details added are correct for the tag definition about to be created review all tag definition details to ensure the information is accurate and complete if any changes are needed, click the corresponding step link and update the information when all details are correct, click submit a confirmation message displays “tag definition created successfully you have successfully created \[tag key name] ” to cancel the operation, click cancel a confirmation message displays “are you sure you want to cancel? you will lose your edits for this tag definition this action is permanent and cannot be undone ” click confirm to cancel the operation and discard all changes or click nevermind to return to the tag definition and continue editing importing tag definitions into these definitions imported into the system would be in an active state and immediately available to bridge 'global tagname' to stay updated, monitor the toast notification currently displayed in the upper right corner of the screen a successful tag import notification indicates that your process is complete and that the new tag definitions will remain in an active state within the system if you see a partial or failed bulk import notification, recheck whether the required attributes were added correctly in the uploaded file in app notifications for tag definition the bulk import capability for tag definitions enables delivery teams to upload tag definitions in bulk eliminating the need for manual entry imported definitions are automatically activated and ready for use by bridge applications users receive in app notifications on the import outcome and can download a detailed report to review results and identify any errors this ensures efficient onboarding of tag definitions and improved visibility into the import process as the process is asynchronous, users receive updates indicating whether the import is successful indicates that all tags definition everywhere were imported successfully, including the total count of imported tags unsuccessful indicates that the import failed completely, and no tags were imported partially successful indicates that some tags were imported successfully while others failed, including counts for both tag definition import report notifications include an option to download a detailed tag definition import report the import report provides a detailed, downloadable summary of the tag import results, enabling users to quickly validate which tags were successfully imported and identify any failures the import report is available from the in app notification for all import outcomes (successful, unsuccessful, and partially successful) it contains the following columns tag key the identifier of the tag being imported tag value the value associated with the tag status indicates whether each entry was success or failed reason for failure provides an explanation for failed entries common failure reasons may include tag key already exist (in the system, duplicate tag key (duplicate key within the file) or no tag key available etc tag definition import report complements in app notifications by offering a row level view of the import outcome for better troubleshooting and auditability
