To set up your development environment, configure your IDE, editor settings, and the environment variables required for different runtime modes and LLM providers.

- **Recommended IDE Setup: **VS Code with the following extensions: - Python (Microsoft) - Pylance - Python Debugger - Docker - GitLens - GitHub Copilot (optional)
- **VS Code Settings:**

```javascript
{
 "python.defaultInterpreterPath": "${{workspacefolder}}/venv/bin/python",
 "python.analysis.typeCheckingMode": "basic",
 "editor.formatOnSave": true,
 "python.formatting.provider": "black"
}
```

You will need different environment variables depending on your runtime mode and LLM provider. No OPENAI\_API\_KEY needed in bridge\_dev, the LLM Gateway handles authentication.

**Core Variables (all modes)**

# Access and repositories

This content covers the GitHub organization, key repositories, and SDK access for Bridge agent development. As an agent developer, you must have access to the **kyndryl-agentic-ai** GitHub organization.

:::hint{type="info"}
You do NOT need access to kyndryl-cto. All resources required for agent development are available in kyndryl-agentic-ai
:::

## Request access

If you do not have access to kyndryl-agentic-ai:

1. Submit a ServiceNow request for GitHub org access.
2. Or contact your team lead to add you to the organization.

### Key repositories

The Bridge Agent SDK is distributed through Kyndryl’s JFrog Artifactory PyPI repository. Developers can access the [repository](https://kyndryl.jfrog.io/artifactory/api/pypi/kyn-cto-kaif-pypi-local/simple) and browse the available SDK packages through JFrog Artifactory under **Bridge Agent SDK**. The current SDK version is **bridge-agent-sdk==1.0.23**.

:::hint{type="info"}
Always check [JFrog Artifactory](https://kyndryl.jfrog.io/ui/repos/tree/General/kyn-cto-kaif-pypi-local/bridge-agent-sdk) for the latest published version and update your requirements.txt accordingly.
:::

# Configure pip for Artifactory

- **Option 1: In requirements.txt (Recommended)**

```javascript
--extra-index-url: https://kyndryl.jfrog.io/artifactory/api/pypi/kyn-cto-kaif-pypi-local/simple
bridge-agent-sdk==1.0.23
langchain>=0.3.0
langgraph>=0.2.0
# ... other dependencies
```

- **Option 2: Global pip Configuration**

Create or edit your pip configuration file:

**Linux/macOS: **

```javascript
~/.config/pip/pip.conf
[global]
extra-index-url = https://kyndryl.jfrog.io/artifactory/api/pypi/kyn-cto-kaif-pypi-local/simple
trusted-host = kyndryl.jfrog.io
```

**Windows: **

```javascript
%APPDATA%\pip\pip.ini [global]
extra-index-url = https://kyndryl.jfrog.io/artifactory/api/pypi/kyn-cto-kaif-pypi-local/simple
trusted-host = kyndryl.jfrog.io
```

:::hint{type="info"}
**Authentication: **If prompted for authentication, use your Kyndryl SSO credentials or generate an API key from JFrog.
:::

# Verify access

- Test GitHub access: Clone the template repo (should work if you have access).
- Test Artifactory Access: Create a test virtual environment

 ```javascript
 python -m venv test-env source test-env/bin/activate
 # Linux/macOS # .\test-env\Scripts\Activate.ps1
 # Windows
 ```
- Install SDK

 ```javascript
 pip install bridge-agent-sdk==1.0.23 \
 --extra-index-url
 https://kyndryl.jfrog.io/artifactory/api/pypi/kyn-cto-kaif-pypi-local/simple
 ```
- Verify installation

 ```javascript
 python -c "from bridge_agent_sdk import BridgeBaseAgent; print('SDK installed successfully!')"
 ```
- Clean up

 ```javascript
 deactivate
 rm -rf test-env
 ```
